Benha University Hospitals witnessed an achievement A new medical condition, after a medical team in the Neurosurgery Department succeeded In performing a delicate and complex surgery on a patient who suffered a serious injury after falling from a high place, which almost caused him permanent paralysis.
This took place under the patronage of Dr. Nasser Al-Gizawi, President of Benha University, Dr. Mohamed Al-Ashhab, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hospitals, and Dr. Amr El-Dakhakhny, Executive Director of Benha University Hospitals.
Saving a patient from paralysis after delicate surgery on the cervical vertebrae at Benha University Hospitals
The hospital’s reception and emergency department had received the patient after he fell from a high place, where examinations and x-rays showed that he had suffered a serious fracture in the second cervical vertebra, which is a very sensitive area due to its proximity to the brainstem and spinal cord, in addition to a vertebral displacement between the fifth and sixth vertebrae.
The surgery was performed under the supervision of Dr. Islam Abu Al-Futouh, Head of the Neurosurgery Department, and Dr. Ihab Saeed, Head of the Anesthesia Department. The medical team was able to stabilize the fracture of the second cervical vertebra with high precision, in addition to stabilizing the vertebral displacement between the fifth and sixth vertebrae using a plate, screws, and a cervical cage.
The medical team included an elite group of specialized doctors from the Neurosurgery and Anesthesia Departments, in addition to the nursing team from the Neurosurgery, Operations, and Anesthesia Departments, who played a major role in the success of the surgery.
The operation was a complete success without any complications, as the patient currently enjoys a stable health condition and full mobility, and is subject to medical follow-up until complete recovery.
