The local management committee is held In the House of RepresentativesToday, its first meeting to discuss a number of briefing requests submitted by representatives, related to files of services, hygiene, and environmental challenges in a number of governorates.
Discussing the crisis of the Obour landfill and the weak oversight of cleaning companies
The committee is discussing the briefing request submitted by Representative Amira Al-Adly regarding the failure of the concerned authorities to adhere to the announced dates for moving the waste landfill in New Obour City in Qalyubia Governorate, and the continuation of harmful emissions and odors emanating from it, despite repeated complaints from citizens, and the failure to take urgent measures to reduce environmental damage until the transfer is implemented.
The representative stressed that the continuation of the current situation negatively affects public health, especially the elderly, children, and respiratory patients, and reflects a failure to respond to citizens’ demands related to protecting the environment and health.
The committee is also considering the briefing request submitted by MP Muhammad Al-Shuwaikh regarding the weak oversight of cleaning companies in new cities, despite large contracts concluded with them for periods of up to five years, which has led to a decline in the level of services provided to citizens.
The request indicated the need to raise the efficiency of the hygiene system and improve the level of performance in line with the urban expansion witnessed by these cities, in order to ensure the provision of appropriate services to citizens.
The committee is scheduled to complete the discussion of these files in light of following up on the implementation of previous recommendations, and to take the necessary measures to ensure improvement in the level of services provided.
