Matrouh Governorate is characterized by an authentic Bedouin character, and this identity is clearly reflected during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations, as the tribesmen are keen to revive inherited customs and traditions that reflect the spirit of social cohesion and solidarity.

The Eid in Matrouh begins with the performance of the Eid prayer in the open squares, where men, youth and the elderly gather in a scene that reflects the unity of the tribe, wearing white robes and traditional Bedouin clothing, amid an atmosphere of joy and chanting takbirs.

After the prayer, the people exchange congratulations with distinctive traditional phrases, such as “May you be from Awadah” and “Happy New Year.” Then the Eid visits begin, as everyone is keen to visit senior families and tribal sheikhs in appreciation of their status.

One of the most prominent aspects of Eid among Matrouh Bedouins is the family “Lamma”, where families gather around dining tables that include famous Bedouin dishes, such as lamb, fattah, and mandi, in addition to serving heavy Bedouin tea and Arabic coffee to the guests.

“Eidiya” also receives great attention, as adults distribute it to children, in an atmosphere of joy and happiness, while children wear new clothes and roam the streets and squares to play and celebrate.
