Study the government Japanese The release of additional quantities of strategic oil reserves equivalent to about 20 days’ consumption, in light of the escalation of the supply crisis resulting from tensions in the Middle East, according to agencies.
Tokyo began drawing on its reserves last month, as part of a coordinated move led by the International Energy Agency, which agreed to release about 400 million barrels of emergency stocks in an attempt to limit rising prices.
Supplies coming from the Middle East
Japan relies heavily on oil imports from the Gulf region, as it imported about 90% of its oil needs from there. Japan has resorted to diversifying its sources of supply, including increasing its imports from the United States to compensate for the shortfall in supplies coming from the Middle East.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi said on Wednesday that she asked Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a phone call to ensure the safety of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
