CNN reported that US Vice President J.D. Vance, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US Presidential Advisor Jared Kushner will participate in negotiations with Iran, scheduled to be held in Islamabad next Friday.
The network did not provide further details regarding the agenda or the nature of the files that will be discussed during these negotiations.
This comes against the backdrop of US President Donald Trump’s announcement that he agreed to stop strikes against Iran for two weeks.
Trump: I agree to stop strikes against Iran for two weeks
Trump said in a post on Truth Social: Based on conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, where they asked me to postpone the destructive force that was scheduled to be directed tonight at Iran, and on the condition that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to the complete, immediate and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack on Iran for two weeks… and this will be a ceasefire on both sides.
Trump added: This is because we have already achieved and even exceeded all military goals, and we are very close to reaching a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran, as well as peace in the Middle East. We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and we believe it constitutes a negotiable basis. Most of the previous points of contention between the United States and Iran have been agreed upon, but the two-week period will allow the agreement to be completed and concluded.
Trump continued: As President of the United States of America, as well as a representative of the countries of the Middle East, I am honored that this long-term problem is close to being solved.
