Company announced Samsung Samsung has adopted the new Aliro smart lock standard, a standard managed by the same body responsible for the Matter standard, in a step that strengthens its presence within the smart home ecosystem.
Under the new update, the Samsung Wallet application will receive the “Digital Home Key” feature, which allows users to open compatible smart locks using NFC and UWB technologies, after the digital key feature was previously limited to cars.
Support Aliro standard
The Digital Home Key feature will work exclusively with locks that support the Aliro standard, which is open to manufacturers and is overseen by the Communications Standards Alliance (CSA), giving companies access to the user base of Galaxy devices and other supporting platforms.
Mechanism of action
After adding the digital home key to Samsung Wallet via the lock settings, the user will be able to open the door in one of two ways, depending on the lock’s capabilities:
– NFC: It works in a similar way to contactless payment, by passing the phone near the lock to open it immediately.
– UWB (Ultra-Wide Band): Allows the door to automatically open as soon as the user approaches the lock while holding an approved device, without the need to touch it.
Samsung confirms that UWB technology is safe, although the idea of automatic unlocking based on proximity may raise some reservations among users.

Faster user experience?
In many cases, using NFC or UWB may be more practical than relying on digital assistants like Google Gemini or Bixby to open the door, as this usually requires unlocking the phone first, which may not be faster than using a traditional key.
As for unlocking the phone and passing it directly over the lock, or even getting close to it to automatically unlock it via UWB, it may provide a faster and smoother experience, especially in repetitive daily situations.
Launch date
Samsung did not reveal the names of specific brands of smart lock manufacturers, but it confirmed that the feature will begin arriving in selected markets during this month, and will expand later in conjunction with the launch of new locks from “the most prominent brands” in this sector.
With this step, Samsung continues to expand its digital key system, moving from cars to home doors, within a broader vision of smart and secure control in daily life.
