Al-Hobi: The increase in Ramadan consumption may be exploited to introduce adulterated food goods
Al-Hobi explained, during a video by the Cabinet Information Center, that the month of Ramadan is witnessing a significant increase in citizens’ consumption rates of food commodities, which may prompt some violators to offer products that do not meet specifications or of unknown origin, taking advantage of the increased demand.
The head of the Food Safety Authority stressed the need for citizens to adhere to a number of measures to protect themselves and their families, most notably purchasing food commodities from reliable sources and licensed places, with the need to review the data written on the product packages and ensure their safety and the expiry date written on them.
He also advised citizens to stay away from illogical prices and unreal promotions that may be an indication of fraud or low quality of the product, stressing that any product that does not contain clear and explicit data about its source and components should be avoided or purchased.
Al-Hobi called on citizens to report any suspicion of food fraud through the authority’s complaint channels, stressing that reporting represents a citizen’s right and contributes to supporting the authority’s efforts to monitor markets and protect public health.
