The source explained that the Arabic Language Academy in Cairo has a number of experienced researchers who hold doctoral degrees in the specializations of language sciences, literature, grammar, morphology, philosophy, history, geography, social sciences, and Islamic law, which makes the presence of experts in the same disciplines from outside the academy questionable, and an indication that the selection criteria may not always be based on competence or scientific necessity, and that there are compliments in selecting these experts from outside the academy?
The source continued that the inclusion of experts in the complex has become based on relationships, personal interests, and sometimes kinship. One of the members enlisted the help of his son, his wife, and his daughter-in-law, experts at the complex, as if the complex had turned into one of his family’s resorts.
He continued that there is another member, who is a full-time professor at one of the colleges, who sought the help of four experts from his college colleagues, including the two college deans! Knowing that the specializations of these four experts are available among the Academy’s researchers who work in the same committees, which confirms that the requirement condition is not met in any way.
Wasting public money and lack of transparency
The source added: The same applies to most of the experts hired by the Academy’s members, which confirms the suspicion of corruption, which leads to the waste of public money in the form of rewards for these experts estimated at millions of pounds spent from the state budget, in light of the presence of researchers appointed to the Academy, and at a time when the government is moving to dry up the sources of corruption and preserve public money.
The source explained that there are many demands by the basic researchers in the Academy for the necessity of reviewing the mechanism for selecting experts within the Academy, and setting clear and transparent standards that ensure strict adherence to the text of the internal regulations, so that the use of experts is limited only to cases called for by true scientific necessity, in a way that preserves the status of the Academy and safeguards public money, but the leadership of the Academy turns a deaf ear to these demands.
