Major General Dr. Alaa Abdel Muti, Governor of Gharbia, followed the efforts of the intensive campaigns implemented by the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in cooperation with the Directorate of Supply and the Supply Investigations Department, to control the markets and ensure the safety of the food products offered, in order to preserve the health of citizens.

This comes within the framework of citizens’ Sham El-Nessim celebrations, and tightening control over markets during seasons that witness a high demand for salted and smoked fish.

The executive authorities in the governorate intensified their monitoring campaigns on places where salted and smoked fish are manufactured and traded, under the supervision of Dr. Nima Arif, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Veterinary Medicine, and Engineer Nasser Al-Afifi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Supply in Gharbia. Joint campaigns were formed that targeted passing a number of food establishments, to determine the extent of compliance with health requirements and to ensure the quality and safety of products.

The efforts of the campaigns resulted in the issuance of 24 various reports, in addition to the seizure of a quantity of 1 ton and 110 kg of salted fish (fesikh) and smoked fish (herring) suspected to be unfit for human consumption, as it was found that there were changes in the natural properties of the product indicating its unsuitability. The entire seized items were seized and the necessary legal measures were taken against the violators, with the Public Prosecution being notified to initiate investigations.

Major General Dr. Alaa Abdel Moati confirmed that the Gharbia Governorate continues to implement a strict control plan during the Sham El Nessim season, to control the markets and prevent the circulation of any unsuitable food commodities, stressing that the health of the citizen is at the top of the executive branch’s priorities, and that any violations that may threaten his safety will not be allowed, with full coordination continuing between the Directorate of Supply, the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine, and all concerned parties to ensure the arrival of safe and sound food to every citizen, especially in light of the increase in consumption rates during the holidays.
