Major General Tariq Rashid, Governor of Sohag, conducted a field tour to inspect the public slaughterhouse development project, in preparation for trial operation on next April 10, in conjunction with the governorate’s National Day celebrations, with the opening and final handover taking place by the end of April 2026, as part of the state’s plan to develop and raise the efficiency of slaughterhouses nationwide.

During the tour, the governor was accompanied by the deputy governor, the head of the center and city of Sohag, the general director of veterinary medicine, the representative of the reconstruction authority, and a number of executive leaders, where they followed the latest preparations for operating the project.
The governor listened to a detailed explanation about the development stages, which began in 2020 and ended recently. The slaughterhouse includes two slaughter lines with a capacity of up to 20 carcasses per hour for each line, and includes an integrated system that includes an automatic slaughter box, specialized machines for pulling skin and emptying the entrails, in addition to an automatic saw, ensuring the application of the latest health and environmental standards.
The Director General of Veterinary Medicine explained that the carcasses are subject to a careful veterinary examination after slaughter to ensure they are safe and free of diseases, before they are sealed and put on the market, with refrigerators being provided to store the meat temporarily, until it is distributed. He pointed to coordination with the concerned authorities to provide the necessary human cadres in preparation for the start of the trial operation.
The Governor of Sohag stressed the need to adhere to the highest standards of quality and food safety, while ensuring the readiness of equipment and the competence of trained personnel, to ensure the provision of distinguished service to citizens, preserve public health, and prevent slaughter outside approved slaughterhouses.
