In an inspiring story that embodies the power of will, Mrs. Gamalat Helmy Ali Mahmoud, 60 years old, succeeded in winning the title of Ideal Mother in Sohag Governorate for the year 2026, after a long journey of struggle that began with her being deprived of education, and ended with 3 girls graduating from university.
Jamalat lived a difficult childhood in a rural village, where she was forced to work early instead of attending education, before she began her married life in 1984, partnering with her husband in a simple project to provide for living requirements.
She was exposed to severe challenges after her husband married another woman and threatened her daughters’ educational future, which prompted her to make a decisive decision to leave her marital home and return to her village, to begin a new journey during which she relied on learning the sewing profession as a primary source of income.
Her married life ended in divorce in 2006, so she took responsibility for her daughters alone, and resorted to litigation to obtain their rights, in parallel with her continuing to work long hours to secure their education.
She did not stop there, but enrolled in literacy classes and succeeded in obtaining a preparatory certificate, to confirm that learning is not related to age, while her efforts resulted in her three daughters graduating and obtaining university qualifications.
Despite suffering from heart disease, Gamalat continued her journey of giving without stopping, becoming an honorable model for the struggling Egyptian mother.
