France has banned a Muslim gathering that was scheduled to be held in the Paris region in the coming days, because it represents a security risk, a senior French police official said, according to Reuters.
Paris Police Chief Patrice Faure explained in a post on the X platform: “At the request of Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, I have issued an order banning the 40th annual meeting of French Muslims, from April 3 to 6 at the Paris Le Bourget exhibition center.”
He continued his speech, saying: “This decision comes in a national and international context characterized by escalating tensions, an increased level of terrorist alert, the risks of public unrest, and an intensified security presence on the streets during the coming days.”
A legal appeal against the decision
This decision comes after France strengthened security at sensitive sites throughout Paris following the thwarting of a bomb attack on the Bank of America, last weekend, in the wake of the US-Israeli war on Iran.
In response to a question about the situation, Makhlouf Mamish, head of the organization that planned the event, confirmed the ban order and added that his organization would file a legal appeal against the decision.
