Engineer Randa Al-Minshawy headed the Minister of Housing and Utilities And urban communities, the regular meeting of the Utilities Committee to follow up on the work system in the drinking water and sanitation sectors, in the presence of Engineer Ahmed Omran, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities, ministry officials and heads of its affiliated agencies and bodies, where the meeting dealt with following up on the status of projects in the governorates of Menoufia and Matrouh, in addition to the 10th of Ramadan City.

Water and drainage projects in the governorates

The Minister of Housing confirmed at the beginning of the meeting that the regular holding of the Facilities Committee comes within the framework of continuous monitoring of the rates of implementation of infrastructure projects and services, and working to improve the level of facilities provided to citizens, noting that the meetings also aim to monitor the challenges facing implementation and work to find quick solutions to them, in addition to listening to proposals and ideas that contribute to developing the facilities system at the republic level.

During the meeting, the Minister reviewed the reports of the executive authorities regarding the progress of work in drinking water and sanitation projects, and the position of the projects being implemented to improve the quality of life in cities and villages, where the current completion rates and the challenges that may face implementation were presented, while discussing mechanisms for accelerating work rates to complete the projects according to the specified timetables.

Engineer Randa Al-Minshawy stressed the importance of continuous follow-up of development projects, especially those related to the development of basic facilities and services, because they have a direct impact on improving the standard of living for citizens and supporting development plans in the governorates, stressing the necessity of full coordination between the Ministry’s agencies, the concerned authorities and the implementing companies to ensure speedy completion while adhering to the highest quality standards.

With regard to Menoufia Governorate, the meeting discussed the position of implementing drinking water and sanitation projects and delivering utility services to the targeted villages and areas, with an emphasis on the need to complete them as soon as possible to support the state’s efforts in developing the Egyptian countryside, in addition to following up on the work of expanding drinking water stations and sewage stations in a number of regions, and raising the efficiency of utility networks to serve citizens, as the Minister of Housing directed to study the governorate’s needs for projects and implement permanent solutions for areas that suffer from challenges in utility services.

The meeting also reviewed the drinking water system in Matrouh Governorate, where water is transported via the coastal road for a distance of up to about 300 kilometers from the city of Al-Hammam to the city of Matrouh, through water lines with a total length of approximately 500 kilometers with graduated diameters. The system includes water risers, storage tanks, and seawater desalination plants, in addition to a review of the governorate’s sewage system, which includes 4 treatment plants, 7 main lifting stations, and 24 sub-lifting stations.

The meeting also touched on the position of the drinking water system in 10th of Ramadan City, which has a total design capacity of about 1,821 million cubic meters per day, in addition to the sewage system in the city’s stations with a design capacity of 576 thousand cubic meters per day, in addition to following up on the executive position of a number of projects being implemented within the city’s facilities system.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Housing confirmed that the Utilities Committee will continue to be held periodically to follow up on performance indicators and measure the level of service provided to citizens, within the framework of the Ministry’s plan to develop the utilities sector and raise its efficiency in line with the state’s directions towards achieving sustainable development.
