During the meeting, opportunities for cooperation between the two countries were reviewed, which include the automobile industry, electric car batteries, pharmaceutical industries, medical supplies, green manufacturing, manufacturing for export, and the transfer and localization of technology, especially in some vital sectors.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister stressed the depth of Egyptian-British relations and the Egyptian side’s aspiration to achieve more joint cooperation with the United Kingdom, especially since the Egyptian market has a large number of leading British companies operating in the industrial sector, pointing out the need for British companies to benefit from Egypt as a regional industrial hub and a strong export window to the markets of African countries, which is what several European companies have succeeded in doing and building on the experiences of successful British companies in Egypt in a way that is in the interest of the economies of both countries.

The Minister explained the importance of constructive and open communication between the Ministry of Industry and the British side to work to solve any problem or overcome any challenges that British companies operating in Egypt may face. He welcomed any proposals submitted by the embassy to the Ministry that would facilitate British companies working in the field of industry, as the Ministry will provide all means of support to them to sustain their business in the Egyptian market, as well as enhancing constructive communication between British companies and corporate entities in Egypt such as the Federation of Egyptian Industries and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce to introduce them to local suppliers to achieve integration in supply chains.

The meeting touched on the expected visit of the British Prime Minister to Egypt during next July at the head of a delegation of government and businessmen, which aims to raise relations between the two countries to the level of strategic partnership by organizing a business summit to showcase current and future opportunities in the fields of industrial and commercial investment, in addition to signing joint cooperation agreements, as the visit will be a good opportunity for Egyptian and British companies to meet and explore available cooperation opportunities.

The meeting also touched on the areas of green infrastructure and the border carbon adjustment mechanism (CBAM), within the framework of the decarbonization program in Egypt, where the two sides discussed opportunities to implement joint projects that contribute to reducing emissions and raising the readiness of Egyptian industry to deal with new environmental requirements in international markets, in addition to discussing cooperation in joint activities in the field of medical waste recycling, which contributes to supporting environmental sustainability and localizing modern industrial solutions that open the way for new investments and technological partnerships in this sector.

Hashem added that one of the ministry’s most important priorities currently is identifying a number of strategic industrial sectors and attracting international companies to work in Egypt. The most important of these areas is the automobile industry and its components, especially in light of the existence of the National Program for the Development of the Automotive Industry, which provides clear and attractive incentives to manufacturers, as British companies can be attracted to participate in the manufacture of some components, transfer technical expertise, and build local supply chains, in a way that supports the state’s trend towards shifting to low-emission means of transportation, in addition to the pharmaceutical industry and cooperation in the field of pharmaceutical research and development and medical supplies, especially since the United Kingdom is one of the leading countries in this field.

For his part, Mr. Mark Bryson, the British Ambassador to Cairo, stressed his country’s keenness to deepen the frameworks of joint cooperation with Egypt, as it is one of the United Kingdom’s most important partners in the region. The United Kingdom is also one of the largest international investors in the Egyptian market in vital sectors such as oil and gas, education, and financial services, noting that the United Kingdom is looking forward to strengthening cooperation in the areas of export financing and green economy areas and encouraging sustainable investments in a way that rises to the level of the close relations between the two countries.

The British ambassador to Cairo added that there are British companies currently expanding in Egypt and wish to diversify investment areas to take advantage of the competitive advantages available in Egypt, including trained workers, competitive operating costs, and a distinguished geographical location with regard to exporting to foreign markets.
