Details of the decision to work remotely
The details of the remote work decision announced by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly today, in a press conference, included the implementation of the remote work system for public and private sector employees, on Sunday of every week, as the state applies Thursday and Friday leave for public sector employees, plus a remote work day on Sunday for some sectors to which the decision applies.

The Prime Minister explained that the decision will take effect from Sunday, April 5, 2026, for a continuous period of one month as a trial phase, with a study on extending the work if it succeeds in maintaining the effective functioning of services and business without affecting the quality of work.
The decision to work remotely aims to rationalize energy consumption and reduce loads to confront the consequences of the Iranian-American-Israeli war, especially after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the cessation of many supply chains, especially in the energy and petroleum sector.
During the press conference, the Prime Minister confirmed that the decision comes in light of the rise in the energy import bill, especially with the increasing demand for energy as a result of daily transportation, stressing that the decision aims to maintain business continuity and production rates while reducing energy consumption.

Categories excluded from the decision to work remotely

According to the Cabinet’s decision today to implement the remote work system for the public and private sectors, the following categories are excluded from the decision:
- Production factories, especially in the food sector.
- Government service sectors that provide real-time services.
- Public and private schools.
- Public and private universities.
- The private sector, including pharmacies, hospitals and medical centres.
- The transportation sector, including the metro and railways
- Water and electricity stations
Cabinet decisions today
Today’s Cabinet decisions, as Dr. Madbouly explained, included the start of slowing down all major fuel-intensive projects for a period of two months, with an immediate directive to reduce 30% of fuel allocations for cars and government vehicles.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly announced the expansion of the circle of groups excluded from the decision to close shops, cafes, and malls early, to also include public stores and tourist facilities in the governorates of South Sinai, Aswan, and Luxor, and the cities of Hurghada and Marsa Alam in the Red Sea Governorate, in addition to public stores and tourist facilities on the Nile in Cairo and Giza.
