The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in cooperation with a number of US security agencies, has warned of escalating electronic activity by entities believed to be linked to… In IranIt targets operational technology systems within critical infrastructure in the United States, in a development that raises increasing concerns about the security of sensitive sectors, and this comes as Trump’s deadline for launching major attacks on Iran approaches.

FBI warns of cyber attacks linked to Iran

According to the joint security warning, these attacks are not limited to traditional hacking operations, but rather extend to tampering with industrial control systems, including energy and water networks and vital facilities, which in some cases led to the disruption of operational operations and caused financial losses, in addition to tampering with the operational data of the targeted systems.

The security report explained that the attackers target operational technology (OT) systems, such as industrial control systems (SCADA and PLC), which are used to manage and operate critical infrastructure, noting that some attacks relied on exploiting vulnerabilities in systems connected to the Internet, which allowed them to directly influence operational processes.

The warning also indicated that the cyber activity attributed to parties linked to Iran reflects a development in attack methods, as it is no longer limited to information gathering or espionage, but rather aims to create tangible operational effects within the targeted systems.

The US agencies confirmed that these activities represent an escalating threat to national security, especially with the increasing dependence of critical infrastructure on connected digital systems, calling on institutions operating in sensitive sectors to strengthen cyber protection measures and continuously update their systems.
