The Italian authorities arrested an Egyptian citizen (28 years old) in the “Centocelle” neighborhood in the capital. RomeOn charges of possession and trafficking in narcotic drugs.
The arrest came during a routine inspection tour by a security patrol throughout the neighborhood, where the young man aroused the suspicion of the forces after he attempted to quickly change his route to avoid inspection.
Immediately after he was examined, the security forces found in his possession a bag containing portioned quantities of hashish and marijuana, prepared for direct sale, in addition to a sum of money and an accurate electronic scale.
The security and legal context
Note that the security authorities in Rome have recently intensified their presence in vital areas, in response to repeated complaints from residents of the region about the increased activity of drug dealers in public squares. The arrested person was taken to the police station, where the prosecution charged him with “possession for the purpose of trafficking,” and he is scheduled to be brought before the judiciary in a speedy trial session.
It is worth noting that this operation comes within the “Safe Streets” plan launched by the Municipality of Rome, which aims to restore security control over neighborhoods with high population density.
The security report issued by the police station indicated that the accused was active at different times of the day, taking advantage of the crowding in areas near shopping centers.
The sources confirmed that investigations are still underway to uncover the supply network that the accused deals with, in an effort to dismantle the hotbeds for promoting toxins that worry the security of citizens in the Chintushili neighborhood.
