Garbage collections planting initiative

In the same context, the local unit of the village of Awlad Amr, affiliated with the center and city of Qena, was able to implement a number of initiatives to beautify places where garbage accumulates, and remove tons of accumulations, in implementation of the directives of Major General Dr. Mustafa El-Beblawi, Governor of Qena, to remove garbage accumulations and preserve the cultural and environmental appearance in all villages and cities.

Engineer Mohamed Saleh, head of the village of Ouled Amr, explained that regarding what was recently circulated regarding the accumulation of garbage on the “Agarda” road, this site represented a major challenge, as it consisted of hills of waste that had accumulated for more than 5 years, noting that previously nearly 250 tons were removed and the area was completely afforested.

Saleh pointed out that this came within the framework of implementing the comprehensive local unit’s vision to eliminate uncivilized manifestations, through the initiative that it launched 5 months ago, under the title “Together to plant trees in places where garbage collects,” which aims to transform pollution points into sustainable green spaces.

The head of the local unit pointed out that some people carried out unfortunate actions, removed trees, and threw garbage again in the same location, stressing that the local unit works to remove waste from it weekly according to the announced schedule, despite the wide geographical area that serves 5 sub-villages and their dependencies, with the signing of a cooperation protocol with one of the associations to collect garbage from homes.

It is worth noting that the initiative has achieved tangible successes in other areas, as the local unit has so far been able to cleanse and remove garbage from 9 vital sites and transform it into wooded areas, amid full commitment from the citizens surrounding those areas to participate in the home collection system, which reflects the people’s awareness of the necessity of preserving the aesthetic appearance of the village.
