It is worth noting… You have my sincere thanks and appreciation for your distinguished, high-level performance in transparency and integrity in assuming this responsibility.

The committee had opened the door to waivers for candidates in the party’s presidential elections from January 13 to January 16, 2026, and it is expected that the waiver deadline will be extended.

For his part, Dr. Yasser Hassan, Treasurer of the Wafd Party, and the candidate for the presidency of the Wafd Party, announced his official waiver from the electoral race, in favor of Dr. Al-Sayyid Al-Badawi, former head of the Wafd Party, in response to the desire of a number of party leaders and out of concern for the unity of the Wafd ranks at this delicate stage, according to the text of the statement.

Hassan said in his statement that his decision came after a gracious visit he received from Dr. Al-Sayyed Al-Badawi, accompanied by a number of leaders of the Wafd Party, headed by Major General Dr. Muhammad Al-Husseini, the party’s former treasurer, Dr. Alaa Shawali, and engineer Majed Nour, along with our colleague Professor Adel Al-Tuni, member of the party’s supreme body. During the meeting, the conditions for the upcoming Wafd presidency elections and their repercussions on the party were discussed.

The statement explained that the two parties share the same voting bloc, which would have led to what it described as a “zero-sum battle” during which votes would be dispersed, in a way that does not serve the interest of any of the candidates and is not in the interest of the Wafd Party, especially in light of the unprecedented number of candidates in the current elections.

He pointed out that his decision was based on a firm appreciation of the value of seniority in the Wafdist heritage, and out of respect for the historical and political status that Dr. Al-Sayyid Al-Badawi enjoys within the party, stressing that responding to the desire of the Wafd leaders came from his belief that the public interest of the party rises above any individual considerations or ambitions.

He stressed that the decision to withdraw, despite the sadness and pain it carries on a personal level, and the requirement of waiting another period for a new generation to take the helm of leadership, is a realistic decision imposed by the circumstances surrounding the elections, and the desire to avoid the divisions that often follow electoral entitlements within parties.

The statement stressed that the ultimate goal at this stage is to preserve the unity and cohesion of the Wafd Party, and to work to support its organizational and political stability, enabling it to perform its national and historical role on the Egyptian political scene, away from any internal conflicts that may affect its path.

Al-Wafd MP Eid Heikal, a former member of the Legislative and Constitutional Committee in the House of Representatives, former head of the Specific Committee for Elections and Values, and a candidate for the Wafd Party presidency elections, also indicated his official waiver from running in the electoral race, confirming his full support for Dr. Sayyed Al-Badawi Shehata, the former party leader, in the upcoming Wafd Party presidency elections.

Representative Eid Heikal confirmed, in a statement, that his decision comes out of his concern for the unity of the Wafd party and unification within the party, and for giving priority to the higher interest of the Wafd Party above any personal considerations, especially at this delicate stage that requires concerted efforts and the restoration of the party’s national and historical role.

Heikal explained that Dr. Al-Sayyid Al-Badawi Shehata has great political and party experience, and a clear vision for rebuilding the party and revitalizing its political and popular role, in a way that achieves the aspirations of the members of the delegation body and the party’s base in the various governorates.

Representative Eid Heikal stressed his continued support of the party’s institutions and working with all its members sincerely for the advancement of the Wafd Party, calling on members of the General Assembly to participate positively in the upcoming elections, in a way that reflects the honorable democratic image of the party.

He concluded his statement by emphasizing his full respect for all candidates, wishing Dr. El-Sayed El-Badawi Shehata success in the upcoming election, in a way that achieves the interests of the Wafd Party and restores its leading position on the political arena.
