The Egyptian Prisons Service executed the death sentence against Islam Mohamed Fathi after the Court of Cassation upheld the ruling issued against him, making it final and conclusive after exhausting all levels of litigation.
The sentence was carried out inside Badr Prison, according to legal procedures, where the body was transported to the hospital and then handed over to his family for burial.
Details of the incident
The events of the incident date back to August 2022, when the city witnessed Zagazig A horrific crime victimized by student Salma Bahjat, a student at the Faculty of Information, who was on her way to her training headquarters in one of the sites in the city of Zagazig.
Investigations revealed that the accused had previously known the victim and tried to associate with her, but she refused, which prompted him to plan revenge on her
Investigations added that he lurked for her in front of the entrance to the property, which includes the headquarters of the newspaper in which she was training, and upon her arrival, he stabbed her with a white weapon, inflicting 31 separate stab wounds throughout her body, according to the forensic report.
The people tried to save her and take her to the hospital, but she died as a result of her injury. The incident turned into a public opinion issue that sparked widespread anger.
The security services were able to arrest the accused after the incident, and he was referred to trial, where the Zagazig Criminal Court ruled that he be executed by hanging.
After appealing the ruling, the Court of Cassation upheld the sentence, so that the death sentence was implemented and ended one of the most prominent cases that occupied public opinion during the recent period.
