Who is Islam Azzam?
Dr. Azzam has long experience in the financial markets sector, as he served as Vice President of the Financial Regulatory Authority during the period from January 2021 to August 2025, during which he supervised the capital market, insurance, and non-banking finance sectors.
He also held a number of prominent positions, including advisor to the Chairman of the Real Estate Finance Authority between 2007 and 2009, and Assistant to the Chairman of the Capital Market Authority during the period from 2003 to 2005, in addition to his work as managing director of the Small and Medium Enterprises Investment Fund Company “Bedaya” and advisor to the Minister of Investment. Azzam began his career as an economic analyst in the Trading Supervision Department at the Capital Market Authority.
On the academic level, Dr. Azzam works as a professor of finance at the American University in Cairo, after heading the finance department and the graduate program in finance at the university during the period from 2005 to 2021. He also worked as an assistant professor in economics at the Faculty of Commerce at Suez Canal University, and a visiting professor of finance at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, in addition to his work as a visiting professor at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport.
