During the Mobile World Show, Ubiquiti unveiled its first device of the new generation of Wi-Fi 7 networks, which is called U7 Mesh. The new routers come to provide the latest wireless communication standards, to be the direct successor to the previous U6 Mesh version, and provide the ability to build a large-scale wireless network based on mesh connectivity technology to cover large areas with high efficiency.
The new devices offer the same coverage area of 140 square meters, with the addition of the feature of directing antennas in the 5 GHz band to increase the distance between connection points, a feature that was missing in previous versions. Although the data transfer speed decreased from 4.8 to 4.3 gigabits per second on the 5 GHz band due to the move to the Wi-Fi 7 standard, the new version is designed to handle a larger number of connected devices with greater efficiency thanks to reduced response time.
The new devices still lack support for the 6 GHz band, so connectivity options are limited to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands only. To improve the experience of smooth transition between different connection points within the network without interruption, the new generation of devices supports modern roaming standards 802.11k, 802.11r and 802.11v to ensure connection stability at all times.
Operating the device requires relying on a Power over Ethernet adapter, which the company provides inside the box, while providing the device with a network port with a speed of 2.5 gigabits per second. The company sells the units with internal and external mounting accessories to give users the freedom to choose the installation method, while emphasizing the necessity of using a wall mount equipped with a rubber seal to obtain IPX6 protection against weather elements, thus becoming a practical alternative to the current U7 Pro Outdoor versions.
Ubiquiti confirmed that the U7 Mesh units have undergone a comprehensive redesign, with a particular focus on improving the durability of the outer structure and simplifying the installation process. The new networking devices are now available for purchase at a price of $199 per unit, providing a convenient solution for users looking for broad and stable wireless coverage.
