Huawei has relaunched its flagship phone, the Mate 80 Pro Max, to give it a larger camera unit than the previous version to meet the aspirations of technology lovers. This new version, which bears the name Wind Edition, comes with only three cameras instead of four, but it compensates for this deficiency by incorporating an active cooling fan to improve the performance of the HiSilicon Kirin 9030 Pro processor, and despite the availability of the Pura 80 Ultra series globally, including European markets, the Mate 80 series of phones is still limited to specific regions, but that did not prevent the company from launching this updated version of the phone that it originally announced last November.
Huawei has confirmed some precise details about this new version, which is scheduled to go on sale within a few hours. A direct comparison with the standard Mate 80 Pro Max phone reveals that the camera unit protrudes more from the outer body, with the lower half of the unit being provided with precise ventilation openings. The company takes advantage of this space and openings to install an active cooling fan, a feature usually found in smartphones dedicated to heavy gaming, which reflects the brand’s desire to provide a device that combines superior imaging capabilities and stable performance.
The integration of this innovative fan helps the HiSilicon Kirin 9030 Pro achieve higher and stable performance levels under sustained workloads. Expectations indicate that Huawei can benefit from the new cooling system to reduce the temperature of the cameras as well, allowing the recording of long, high-resolution video clips without any interruption or noticeable increase in temperature, but this exceptional engineering design forced Huawei to sacrifice one of the four rear cameras to provide the space necessary to install the fan and ensure its operation with high efficiency.
This special edition retains many of the leading specifications that distinguished the original version to provide an integrated user experience. The smartphone comes with a bright and stunning OLED screen with a peak brightness of 8,000 nits to ensure clear vision in various lighting conditions. The device includes an advanced main camera with a variable aperture to adapt light capture, in addition to a 3D facial recognition system to ensure the highest levels of security and privacy for users and effectively protect their personal data.
The company will open pre-order for the new Wind Edition phone in the Chinese markets starting on Saturday, March 21, to meet consumer requests. The brand offers this device with two memory options, including a version with 16 GB of RAM and a storage space of 512 GB, and another version with the same RAM and a storage space of 1 TB. To clarify the picture, the standard fanless version is available in China at prices starting from 7,999 Chinese yuan, which is equivalent to about 1,160 US dollars.
