In a joint statement, 20 countries condemned the recent attacks targeting unarmed commercial ships in the region Gulfloaded Iran Responsibility for escalation, stressing the danger of targeting Infrastructure Civil, including oil and gas facilities, along with the physical closure of Strait of HormuzOne of the most important sea lanes for global energy trade.
A number of international powers participated in the statement, including Britain, France, Germany, Japan, and Canada, along with other European and Asian countries, in addition to Bahrain, in confirmation of the widening international concern about the repercussions of the escalation in the region.
According to the statement, published by the British government, the signatory countries expressed “deep concern about the escalation of the conflict,” calling on Iran to immediately stop all hostile activities, including threatening navigation, planting mines, and carrying out drone and missile attacks, in addition to any attempts aimed at disrupting the movement of trade across the Strait.
The statement also stressed the need for Iran to comply with international legitimacy resolutions, most notably Security Council Resolution No. 2817, stressing that the continuation of these attacks represents a direct threat to global maritime security and supply chains, especially in light of international markets’ dependence on oil and gas flows through the Gulf.
This international position comes at a time of increasing fears of the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East and its impact on the global economy, as continued disruption of navigation may lead to higher energy prices, increased inflationary pressures, and obstruction of international trade. The statement also reflects a unified international effort to contain the crisis and prevent the region from sliding into a broader confrontation that threatens regional and global stability.
