Digital cameras like Fujifilm’s X100 VI and Leica’s M11 have long had useful applications for phones. Now the Pellica application complements the experience of using traditional analogue cameras, as it allows adding digital metadata to analogue images and greatly assists in the film development process. French photographer Imad Jabarni developed this new application specifically for Apple iPhones, which are available at a price of US$777, to be a comprehensive application that facilitates the lives of film photographers instead of dispersing their efforts between multiple applications.

The application allows you to manage several reels of film at the same time, and acts as an exposure meter while taking photos, making it easier to choose the appropriate shutter speed and aperture when using an old camera that does not have a built-in light meter. The application also allows adding metadata that includes the date, time, information about the current weather, and geographic location coordinates, with the ability to add a text description to the images. Once the film roll is completed, the application displays nearby development laboratories or provides accurate information to help develop the film at home, while providing comprehensive data about 48 different types of films currently available.

The application provides the feature of scanning the film directly after it has been developed using the phone’s camera, while automatically integrating the collected metadata into the scanned images. The application includes an add-on that allows tracking of purchased equipment and films, including prices, to accurately monitor expenses. The application is currently available for download through the App Store, with a version specifically for Android phones coming soon. The free version allows management of three active reels with free and ad-free access to the light meter, laboratory application, and cost tracker. Access to all advanced features requires a subscription of $2.99 per month or a one-time fee of $59.99.
