Samsung’s current foldable phones for the year 2026 look very traditional compared to what LG presented before its unfortunate withdrawal from the phone market. The world almost witnessed the first phone with a wrapable screen in 2021, as this innovation was distinguished by an engineering design that exceeds what the industry currently offers. Although the Wing phone did not achieve the desired commercial success, it demonstrated LG’s ability to exceptional innovation before closing the phone division, as its engineers were working on the Rollable phone, which reached the limited production stage and was distributed to some employees for reviews of it to appear later in 2022.

This rare phone did not witness any precise and detailed disassembly operations in the past for fear of damaging it due to the lack of available devices, but four years after its first appearance, a YouTube channel finally revealed the amazing internal components of this unique device. The video clip showed precise details explaining how the flexible OLED screen works while expanding and folding from the outside, in addition to revealing the complex mechanical mechanism that manages this process from the inside very smoothly.

In this unique design, LG relies on a combination of two motors combined with a mechanical spring system consisting of three arms to ensure that all internal electronic components move evenly and accurately. When the screen is folded, the wraparound part disappears behind a transparent glass panel at the back to serve as a useful secondary screen for displaying notifications and phone status or to help take selfies using the main camera. This device represents an unprecedented level of technical innovation that has maintained its efficiency and full operation even after five years of its manufacture.
