Lenovo officially announced a new desktop computer dedicated to professional workstations that supports huge capacities of RAM and storage space, in addition to two powerful RTX Pro 6000 graphics cards with 96 GB of GDDR7 VRAM memory for each. Despite the current record high prices of memory and storage space, many professionals need these huge capacities to deal with complex artificial intelligence tasks, which prompted the company to launch the advanced ThinkStation P5 Gen 2 computer to meet these increasing requirements powerfully and effectively.
This new desktop computer relies on powerful Intel Xeon 600 family processors, which include up to 48 cores and whose clock speeds reach 4.9 GHz to ensure superior performance. These capable processors can be paired with up to two NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell Max-Q graphics cards with a massive 96 GB ECC GDDR7 VRAM. Thanks to the presence of eight RAM slots, each of which supports 128 GB DDR5, the device can be provided with a total memory of up to 1 TB operating at speeds of up to 6400MT/s.
Power users who need massive local storage can install up to four M.2 NVMe SSDs for a total of 16TB of fast storage. The ThinkStation P5 Gen 2 computer provides enough internal space to accommodate three traditional 3.5-inch hard drives, which can add another 36 TB of storage capacity. To power all these power-hungry components, Lenovo chose to use a 750-watt or 1000-watt power supply unit depending on the internal configuration of the device.
The new computer offers various connectivity options, including four USB-C 3.2 ports, one of which has a full bandwidth of up to 20 Gbps, while the speed of the other ports reaches 10 Gbps. The device also includes six USB-A ports, two 3.5 mm audio jacks, and a Gigabit Ethernet port for wired networks, with support for wireless connectivity via modern WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 technologies. This desktop computer can run Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu Linux, or Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems intended for organizations.
It is obvious that this computer is not cheap in any way, given the exceptional specifications it provides to users. Lenovo has not yet revealed the final and complete pricing details for the United States or other global markets, but it has officially confirmed that the ThinkStation P5 Gen 2 computer will begin arriving in selected and specific markets by April 2026, setting a new and powerful standard in the world of office workstations intended for professionals and content creators.
