A technical innovator offers an unconventional solution for fans of the Lightning port, as he designed a special cover that adds this port to the iPhone 17 Pro, despite Apple’s official move to USB-C.

Designer Ken Pillonel, who specializes in prototyping, created this cover by integrating a Lightning to USB-C adapter into a compact design, using custom electronic boards, and printing the structure with 3D technology.

This solution allows the use of old Lightning cables to charge the phone, without the need to modify the device itself, unlike previous experiments carried out by the designer, such as adding USB-C directly to the iPhone

The project also reflects an ongoing interest in improving usability and repair, especially since the designer has previously provided similar modifications for AirPods and older iPhones.

Although the idea may seem unnecessary to some, it offers a practical option for those who still rely on the Lightning system.
